Spanning the Hollandsch Diep estuary, this 1,200-metre bridge facilitates rapid and efficient rail travel across the Netherlands, enhancing connectivity between major European cities. Project Description

The Hollandsch Diep High-Speed Rail Bridge is the longest structure on the HSL-Zuid line, stretching 1,200 metres between Moerdijk and Dordrecht. Completed in 2005, it enables trains to traverse the estuary in approximately 13 seconds at speeds up to 300 km/h. The bridge’s design features V-shaped piers, ensuring minimal disruption to shipping routes and maintaining the estuary’s navigability. Constructed from a steel-concrete composite, it aligns seamlessly with adjacent infrastructure, preserving the region’s aesthetic and functional integrity.

Challenges of the Project

Designing a high-speed rail bridge over a dynamic waterway presented several challenges:
